Natural stone is an environmentally friendly natural product, with a unique and lively appearance. In addition, it is a functional and durable material, suitable for a large number of indoor and outdoor applications. The earth’s crust consists for a large part of natural stone. As a result, the natural stone supply is virtually endless and it is extracted in almost every country. The formation of the earth’s crust and the natural stone in it is a complicated geological process, which is still taking place today. Earthquakes and volcano eruptions form the most tangible proof of this. This geological process determines the appearance and qualities of natural stone. Because no two places in the world go through the same geological development, natural stone is unique to the place where it is extracted.

Because natural stone is extracted from the earth, the qualities and features depend on its natural structure. This structure is not as fixed as with man-made products. Therefore, natural stone can have features that are unknown or cannot be displayed in a showroom. They can be hidden below the surface or become visible only through working the material. Below you will find a list of some positive qualities:
- frost-resistant
- low degree of absorption
- resistant to outward influences
Natural stone
In the regular Life collection, granite is the material which is used the most. With its solid black colour and uniform structure it emanates luxury, which makes it much-loved in the world of design. Compared with samples, granite will always have some defects in terms of colour and structure. This can also be the case with the table of your choice. In this time of mass production, natural stone is an outstanding example of a product that can be praised because of its exceptional qualities. One of those qualities is that no two stones are exactly alike. The forming of stains as a result of daily use cannot be prevented, of course. Natural stone is not magic stone!
Life products can best be cleaned with lukewarm water and specially-made Cleaner. A lot of the regular Cleaners contain acids that should be avoided. Life has developed two professional maintenance products:
- LIFE Natuursteen Cleaner removes dirt, grease, oil, harmful substances and mould.
- LIFE Natuursteen Impregnator protects your products preventatively.
Both detergents are available at your dealer’s, separately or as a care kit.
We developed a special Natural Stone Oil for our “Anciento” tops. Its application will ensure a nice solid, deep colour setting of the granite. We recommend applying the oil at least twice a year.
Aluminium
Aluminium is a lightweight material with a great mechanical stiffness. Four qualities of aluminium and its alloys make it a very versatile material for all kinds of applications in today’s technology:
- favourable strength/density ratio (aviation, vehicles, garden furniture)
- favourable electric conduction/density ratio (high voltage cables)
- good corrosion resistance (garden furniture, weatherproof in construction industry, things for every-day use)
- very pliable
Water and a soft soap are sufficient for maintenance. Avoid scouring or corrosive chemicals and/or sponges.
Cushions
Synthetic velour like acrylic fibre (dralon) and polyamides (nylon perlon) is very strong and colourfast. In the specification of synthetic fibre, a mixing of type and brand names occurred. Dralon velour has become a collective word for fabrics with synthetic pile threads. Synthetic fabrics are very durable, they have a low absorptive power, they are colourfast and are easily cleaned. As far as textile is concerned, there is hardly any furniture lining which is as trouble-free and durable as synthetic fibres.
All our cushion covers are easily removable and can be hand washed (up to 30 °C). We recommend inserting the cushions again while the covers are still moist.
Stainless steel
Stainless steel surfaces get stained or damaged through daily use. This can decrease their corrosion resistance or even cause corrosion, depending on the nature of the staining.
Staining and damage do not only have a detrimental effect on the corrosion resistance of the material; the appearance of the steel will also be affected. Finger marks with fatty residues, annoying deposits, scratches and the like, give the stainless steel an uncared-for appearance. Therefore, it is necessary that the stainless steal is maintained on a regular basis. The periodical maintenance of stainless steel products consists of the following steps:
Light staining
Finger marks with fatty residues, light deposits and the like.
Method:
Rub with a soft cloth with a little CIF and water on it, going with the grain.
Apply Life RVS cleaner on surface, let it set a few moments and polish with a soft, dry cloth. This treatment gives the stainless steel a thin protective layer.
Heavy staining, light damage
Heavy deposits, light corrosion, superficial scratches.
Method:
Rub with a soft cloth with a little CIF and water on it, going with the grain.
Clean the spot with a Scotch Brite cloth and some stainless steel cleaner, going with the grain. Let it set for a few moments and polish with a soft, dry cloth. This treatment gives the stainless steel a thin protective layer.
Tenacious staining, corrosion, scratches
Heavy staining, light damage.
Method:
Treat damaged spot with SCHLEIFFIX sanding rubber, going with the grain.
If necessary, finish with a Scotch Brite cloth. Apply Life stainless steel cleaner on surface, let it set a few moments and polish with a soft, dry cloth. This treatment gives the stainless steel a thin protective layer.
